I know I've mentioned it before, but I'd really like to try putting a pickguard on my GX. (Mostly for aesthetic value, but I do tend to get excited and whack the top from time to time--scrape!--and my anchor pinky leaves smudges.)
I have no idea where to look or even start.
Although, now that I think about it... is there any difference in putting one on a carbon guitar as opposed to a wooden guitar? So maybe any old pickguard installation article would do.
I will probably have to ask you guys for color advice, too. Hate to make it a gal/guy thing, but maybe Cyndy could help there. :)
I wonder if there'd be anything to consider specifically for carbon? And I wonder if removal (just in case) would be hazardous or relatively simple with the RT?
Maybe this would be a good excuse to send it to Marty? Have him work his magic on it and put a nice guard on besides so I don't have to worry about it myself. :)
Ah! I think that one would look really cool!
The only things I'm worried about are:
I mess up installing and have a permanently crooked pickguard (that would be bad)
It diminishes the tone more than I care to accept (and therefore have to take it off and live with sticky or live with the guard)
I guess just those two things. :)
I think it would look really cool, and they do serve a nice purpose. Even if it's unneccesary, it'll stop the small amount of scraping I do and give me something to anchor my pinky on.
Thanks, Steve; I'm off to Elderly to browse!
This one is kind of neat, but maybe something more like what Steve posted above would match better.

if you send me a pic of your guitar....
I would love to make one for you!
or give you advices for you to make it!
the material to use could be carbon too!or kevlar if you wanted it to be bulletproof!
it shoud be a floating one....that could be removed
a little bit like the gibson idea.....i think!
for the colour and shape it is up to you to decide but i can suggest some ideas...
we could do that on the forum.....
that would be fun!
paul.
Paul, that would be awesome!!! I'll post some pictures here. I would love to have your advice and assistance!
Yeah, lets see this GX, Jesse, i've been waiting!
+1 waiting.
ok let's see it!
suggestions:
take a good picture of your guitar top....then with photoshop we will exchange
ideas! if you want to keep the integrity of the good design...
you should make a pickgard ...a compromise beetween discrétion and personnalisation...which is going to make this guitar really yours
think of a design like and deco like it will be your signature, your inspiration of what the music represent in your life!
paul.
Sorry for the delay Paul and everyone!! I'll try to get some pics uploaded tonight! Paul, I think you'll approve. It's a really cool looking guitar. Maybe a little conservative... :)
Got some pictures and forgot them at home. dang it. Should be able to get them posted later today!
Here they are!! Probably belong in the picture section, but they're needed in this topic. :)
Cats shipped separately.

If you're serious about it, why not just go to http://www.elderly.com and purchase a self-adhesive black replacement pickguard? The only drawback is that the adhesive might mar the finish so that this would not be reversible, but if you are sure you want one, it would be easy to do.
