I've had some nice results on Wood guitars with John Pearse bell brass pins and also using the Tisonix titaniums. Has anyone experimented with non-factory standard pins on your graphite acoustic?

Dave,
Can you describe the "results" you had with the JP pins on wood guitars? (I was changing strings this AM on my D-35 and just thinking about replacing the pins, and wondering if it would be worth it.)
Ray
Ray,
I put John Pearse Bell Brass (really heavy) bridge pins on a (spruce & mahogany) Tacoma Thunderhawk baritone and there is definitely more sustain as a result. I put Tisonix titaniums (very stiff, very light) on a (spruce top, rosewood bk and sides) Nigel Forster anniversary cutaway and there seems to be a little more sustain across the board. Finally, I put a single JP BB on the sixth string only of my Cargo and Tisonix on the rest of the strings, and I think the combination gives me more bass and more sustain. The effects of the titaniums seem to be more subtle, but the JPBB's, especially on Big Dreads or Baritones is absolutely an improvement in sustain and big sound.

Dave,
Thank you. I think I'm going down to elderly on Thursday and may take a look at some new pins.

I put pearl dot Tusq bridge pins on my Legacy. I think the orginals are kind of cheap plastic, the pearl dots match the pearl fret board inlays and I think look much better. Sound the same. Somehow Titanium seems the right metal for carbon, high tech.

I have been using the Jellifish Aluminum/Titanium alloy pins in my Legacy. They make about 10-15% increase in volume, bass and sustain to my ear. I switched them back and forth three times in the same day with the same strings and heard the same difference every time, so I don't think it is my imagination...but hey, I've been tricked before when it comes to acoustic sound analysis.
Anyway, I've got a set of D'Andrea brass pins on the way, so I'll probably get those in this weekend. Then its on to the TiSonix pure titaniums. And you know what, after that, (as someone once wrote before the information apocalypse), its UNOBTANIUM bridge pins!...straight from Pandora. At which point I will braid my hair into the guitar strings and play Black Mountain Rag with my mind, all while experiencing a 1,000 percent increase in volume, bass and sustain
.
So you're that 12 foot tall blue guy who plays guitar. . . Let us know how your new pins work and keep them away from those weird thingies at the back of your head.

Carbonaxe you are the man, you tell me what strings are the best and save we the cost of experimentation. Please post the best pin when you are done. I just hope its titanium. Just seems right for a carbon guitar. I am very surprised it make that much difference 15% is worth it.

interesting thread! please keep posting your results. i'll try some of those, but being in Spain all the orders have to cross the ocean, so it's costy! all advices are welcomed before ordering them
Just tried a JP bell brass on the 6th string and a tisonix titanium on the first string of my daughter's WS1000. Definite improvement in tone on the top and bigger bass on the bottom.

Somebody was experimenting with bridge pins in the "old" version of this site. If all of those messages made the transition, you might be able to find that thread.
