i recently picked up a used RT cargo. after i got it home, i noticed a smell like air freshener when i'd play it. as it turns out, the gigbag and the guitar smell like it, and while it didn't bother me at first, i'm noticing it more and more. at first, i assumed the smell would go away if i left it out of its case, but so far no dice. then i thought i'd just sell it and pick up a gloss top cargo that i had seen and preferred, but i waited too long and it was sold.
so does anyone know an effective way to get a smell out of a cargo?
thanks!
If they absorb smells, why not put a sack of coffe beans in it, or maybe smoke it over some sandal wood? Maybe not that extreme, but something along those lines might be worth a try.
yeah! the smell of my brand new raw cargo is just a bit... industrial. i was even thinking to hang a small pine conditioner like the ones on the cars XDD (just kiddin') the idea of the coffee is not bad
i hope it goes away with the time. i noticed that when i play harder, the more air you move inside of the guitar, the more you smell it. even when you strum hard you can notice the air coming out. it's a whole lot of sensations having the sound hole hear you
Hmmm playing the guitar with your nose close enough to smell it...I am trying to get a mental picture. Then again, new guitars smell best, like new cars, I suppose when one gets stinky you could just buy a new one.
I wonder if my wife would be persuaded by such an argument.

really, i don't need to bend so much to smell the guitar when playing at all. anyway, i'm not really pleased by this smelling. this is one of the factor a wood guitar is superior than a carbon. maybe woodies of emerald are the way to go!!!
Some time ago there was a thread, where it was suggested that someone develop the scent of wood, perhaps a nice rosewood, or spruce, or maple smell. Then if it could be bottled and sprayed on a carbon guitar it would be perfect.
Seriously, I think you could just pack the right flavor (scent ) of sawdust in the bag (think tea bag material) with the guitar and have the answer. Especially, if they pick up scent as easily as is being mentioned. You change scents or freshen it as needed.
XD nice idea! i have to find something nice! something more "organic". i'm sorry i missed this thread. tea bags in the inside of the bag... not bad!
maybe i should add it to my "modding my cargo" thread XD
I'd be pretty tempted to try some cedar, like the stuff you put in closets or drawers, when not playing the guitar. It would probably not take that long for the smell to go away.
Maybe something like this:
Brian
I forgot all about cedar but it has a strong but pleasant scent and may be just the ticket, give that carbon a nice wood smell. Wont those wood guitar guys be jealous then...
I think the smell with dissipate in time, but it is odd how much these things do absorb smells. I had a guy play my guitar for about an hour. He was a smoker and I could smell cigarettes for a month. Not like he blew smoke into it or anything, it just absorbed HIS smoker smell. I was NOT happy about that, but the smell did go away.

And together we will try
To rouse the spirit of the air
And move the rolling sky.
