Say Hi to Mike.

please, tell us your impressions on it and the comparison with the x10. sure this open mic was a'lotta'fun!
It's a 2.0 with the Kevlar innards. How's the setup and intonation on YOUR Super OM 2. Mine is high and the intonation is off. Also, the angle of the E and A strings off the saddle is very slight (especially compared to the CA GX and Rainsong Dreadnought I have. So I fear there's not much latitude in lowering the action/fixing the intonation ). Is this the case with your Super OM?
I would not discount the notion of a set-up fix. Subtle changes in the edge and height of the saddle can make some astounding differences in the way a guitar plays and sounds. I'm just surprised that Blackbird would ship a guitar that was not set up right. Although, shipping and settling-in can change things. As the kids say, have not fear.
So am I surprised at the set up--especially since I'd already sent it back once for a problem with the 2 lowest bass strings having practically no volume when plugged in. I have another entry on this with pics of the CA-GX Saddle and the Super OM's saddle. Check it out. Tell me what you think.
if you can, send the guitar to Michael Stone (Macnichol) and your problem will be solved and you'll be amazed with the set-up. more than you might imagine, i dare say. anyway, it seems strange this to happen with blackbird. they are known for doing things properly
Thanks for the tip. I have a good luthier I use in the Phoenix area. So that's encouraging. I'd prefer not to have to "send" it anywhere. If Macnichol can do it, I imagine my guy has the chops. I'm just hoping it's not anything major like the neck angle.
...these forums are great. I learn more great info about guitars (especially the carbon fibers) every time I get on.
So, Hummel, how did things work out? Carbon fiber is a brave new wold and we're at the edge here. Keep us posted.
It comes back from Blackbird this Friday. Here is Joe's latest communication:
Hi Mike,
You were experiencing a minor bow to your neck caused some relief (within acceptable norms). This relief is fine for most clients and not for others. In your case it seemed like you wanted less relief (bow). So we added more robust reinforcement under the fretboard and now your relief has been reduced. This allows us to give you some more break-angle and still low action- another concern of yours. We are doing finishing touches on your guitar as well as intonation.
Again, I apologize this has been a process- it is my mission to make you pleased with your Blackbird. I appreciate your patience. We'll be shipping your guitar back in the next two days and I look forward to your thoughts.
All the best,
Joe
And that's what makes carbon fiber guitars a particularly nice product--the makers are proud of their work and take it personally and seriously. Amen.
