And so, as most of you on this forum know, I managed to finagle a nylon string Emerald X10N, nylon string carbon fiber guitar, the only one in captivity. I've also manged to get myself on the good side of Blackbird guitars and I'm one of five lucky people who will be getting a Super OM nylon string guitar. Eat your hearts out.
So, what's missing here? A Rainsong nylon string guitar. Already on this forum we've seen a player offer to buy a classical nylon string string guitar made by Rainsong. Like my grandson says when he's not hot on a project, Rainsong has essentially said "maybe tomorrow."
Well, maybe we can move things along. Rainsong pays attention to this forum, and this forum can be a good indicator of market. For example, the Blackbird Super OM nylon string thread on this forum has had 1,767 hits--and they were not all mine. That's an indicator of interest.
In working out the details of the Emerald X10N, more than 2,000 hits occurred on this forum's threads. I think that's an indicator of interest.. In the hope of facilitating Rainsong's decision-making, this thread is devoted to what people would like to see in a carbon fiber Rainsong nylon string guitar.
Now that I mention it, here's what I'd like. I like the Rainsong H-OM1999N2. It's a comfortable thin-body size, has a cut-a-way which makes for easy access to the higher frets, and is beautiful enough to fit the pantheon of gorgeous classical guitars. That's what I want.
What do you want?
Evan
I am holding out for a traditional style classical. I want a 2 " nut, 650mm scale, traditonal style tuners, upper and lower bouts, etc. Rainsong had such an instrument in past years. I will wait until someone has them again.

Knowing you, John, I can see why you would want this. I sincerely hope you get one of these some day. Maybe if enough classical players see the benefit of carbon fiber instruments, it could happen. Wasn't there a site that featured violins and cellos made from carbon fiber? Maybe they might have a forum in which you could raise the issue.

People forget the guitar was thought of as a instrument for lowly peasants (that would have been me) and street performers; it was not one of the instruments used to create real music. I read somewhere some harpsicord maker used to give guitars away to create a stigma about them and it worked. Harpsicords made a comeback.
Flash forward to today and that means a true peasants instrument must be generally affordable by the masses (me). The business you are thinking of, assuming its the same one, is really off the charts expensive. No peasants allowed there.... One day RainSong will make a classical for carbon guitar masses. (If you can't tell I am trying to use the power of suggestion on Rainsong, its okay if in the end they think its there idea so long as they make me one. Subliminal messaging will become part of my technique).
Luis and Clark is the violin/cello classical instrument makers--muy caro.
As far as a traditional classical nylon, I think someone should make one--it is the history and tradition of classical guitars. Alistair has made a marvelous nylon string guitar that is contemporary rather than classical--it is my style of nylon string guitar. Blackbird is working on a contemporary nylon string guitar. Rainsong would be a natural for a traditional guitar. The only problem, I think, is that there are so many traditional nylon string guitars, and the prices are so reasonable, it may be very difficult to compete in that market.
However, Luis and Clark have illustrated that quality traditional instruments can be made and sold.

Muy caro - Hey! I understood that (very expensive)
[Question: Quanto Questa Answer: Muy Caro]
As for forgetting that guitars were originally a peasant instrument, I do remember that - painfully. When I was in the Army, I bought a guitar at a music store in Seattle (stationed at Ft. Lewis at the time). I passed up the Martin that was on sale and bought the cheaper Goya classical because it was cheaper. That guitar, my first, was only about $100. My parents gave me a really bad time about it when I came home on leave. to them, a guitar should be a give away. A violin, that is a REAL instrument worth buying. That was a very typical attitude back then. Most everything else EXCEPT guitar, ewas considered a "legitimate" instrument worth a person's time and effort.
But thankfully, today, the guitar has (in a sense and for the most part) come into its own as the primary instrument of my (boomer...) generation. We will still get that "do you sing" when we show up with a guitar, but at least people are more accepting of us who play instrumentally. Also, I believe that there are more people now taking the guitar seriously enough to learn about the craft of music (how to read and write music as well as how the whole thing works) as well as learning to physically play the guitar.

Tony,
Sorry to again be off-topic, but your reference to Fort Lewis brought back some memories: I processed out at Ft. Lewis 12/29/1970, walked out the gate carrying my duffle and my old D-40 Guild (just a memory ....)

No problem swamprat. I processed out at Oakland when coming back from Vietnam. I always thought that area of Washington around Seattle, Tacoma, and Ft. Lewis was beautiful. Unfortunately, it has become much more crowded in later years. I have only been out there on business a few times since leaving the Army, so I really see the changes.

i agree with you. a rainsong nylon would be a good idea, but i think we should wait quite a while for it. BUT this is the moment to push Peavey to create it now!!!! also, we should convince Alistair to start the production of a Nylon line of products.
Peavey has just announced they will start selling all the line of HG CA guitars at the end of this year (no raw or RT for the moment). maybe they will add some improvements, maybe not. what is sure is that JUST NOW they are on a deep product designing moment. you (we) should make our movements now ;)
Remember, peavey asked us to provide ideas ;)
