I just wanted to draw everyone's attention to a couple of one-offs and small builders who work with carbon electrics.
First is Oni Guitars, a luthier in Brisbane, Australia, who specialises in extended range, multi-scale (fanned fret) guitars. Here's a carbon-wrapped 7-string that he made, including the pickups.

Next up is Mark Davis' headless Rhodes V. I'm very interested by his idea to have the pickups underneath the body.

Does anyone else have any cool stories of one-offs or smaller manufacturers they can share?

I saw this on Emerald's site,a nd meant to ask Alistair about it. Are there any additional (better) pictures, where maybe we can see the whole guitar? Is this one YOURS Kramster, or do you know who does own it?
if you wanna know about the guitar and it's owner you should watch this video ;)

be ready to be AMAZED!
Not exactly the same; the one in the video appears to be a bit bulkier, this one seems more streamlined. The one in the photo is also an HSS pickup configuration, and the video is HH. I suppose they are independent commissions (probably for the same client), NOT something he'd put into production. Are they purely CF construction?
Thanks for the link PK! That definitely sheds some light on things for me. Even though that particular design isn't something that I'd want, it certainly builds my GAS for an Emerald electric guitar!
This video will give you a clearer view of it.

All these guitars are complete one offs and are my personal self indulgent creative outlet.
it's my pleasure larry!
i'm really GASing for a Emerald 'parker fly style floyd rose hollow body' electric!! (dreaming is cheap, you know)
WOW - just WOW!!!
So, out of curiosity, did The Alien go to the same home as Draco? The stand is a beautiful work of art on its own, but both of these guitars are stunning.

To me, playability is the single most important aspect of a guitar. Light weight is part of that equation, as is a glass-smooth fretboard and frets, very low action, and excellent balance. As far as tone goes, I like a hi-fi sounding guitar - I prefer extremely wide dynamic range and frequency response, and don't give a darn if it has the "classic" tones that everyone seems to clamor for. I'm one of the few guitarists (it seems) that doesn't want to sound like their guitar heroes on records of old; I want to sound like ME.
Build it and they will come.
(It took real effort to spell that last word with 4, rather than 3 letters...
)
The Alien now has a home in Texas but it was originally comissioned by someone who didnt complete on the deal. I kept the Alien for a few years myself and only sold it last year.. Its a great sounding and very playable guitar.
The stand was actually built for the Draco bass but the Alien looked cool in it too. Guitars like this need the right place to live rather than in a case.
production electric guitars are strong on my to do list but right now I am concentrating on acoustic research and the not so small issue of developing my Bass range.
So many ideas so little time.
Kadmium;
Thanks for the pictures; neat stuff. I don't know if you followed the thread, but the X10N nylon string guitar thread resulted in a one-off by Emerald. This forum has also contributed to a 5-off nylon string being designed and produced by Blackbird. Somewhere on this forum there is also a thread dealing with Alistair's artistic carbon fiber electric guitars, most of which are probably one-offs, one of which is world-famous in the Asian world. One offs are pretty thrilling.
