I'll post three different back wood choices for a custom Weber Black Ice. If this were your mandolin being built, which one would you pick and why? From those who respond, I'll pick one person at random on August 25 to win a free Oasis Case Humidifier and Hygrometer pack (a $44.95 value) plus free shipping.

I would pick #2 I like the consistency of the lines. It also has a nice rhythm/flow to the lines

Based on the Black Ice version I've seen, I don't think no. 3 would look very good with the darker finish. Out of 2 and 4, I would take 4 because there is less fade to the outer edge. All that being said, there hasn't been a Weber yet that hasn't amazed me in how they bring out the grain in the wood with their finishes!

I like #2, it seem more nicely matched, has a nice bold stripe every now and then to add interest. In the end it wont matter which you pick, the guys at Weber will make any one of them simply stunning. I saw what they did with my Gallatin so that comment now comes from experience.

I like number 2 because the stripes in the wood match up at the edge of the two pieces and it is pleasantly symmetrical.

I like #1 consistency while still more exotic.

Number 2 has more even lines. Also they end at the same distances (for the most part). Number 2 is the winner in my case. =]

Without a doubt, #2 -- Uniformity and definition of the wood grain would make a beautiful back for a Black Ice!

I would have to go with #4. I think the lines in #3 are too convoluted and the lines in #2 are actually too uniform. It would work great in some finishes, but for a black ice I think it would look too much like a zebra. With #4 I like the bold yet asymmetrical lines.
