On tour from Hawaii, the Ukulele first gained widespread recognition among stateside music fans at the 1915 Panama Pacific International Expo in San Francisco. Down-the-road and nearly a century later Blackbird Guitars is giving the Ukulele a 2010 reinvention with their proprietary hollow-neck, all-carbon fiber construction. This exceptionally loud and tonally rich instrument is as responsive as it is resilient and will inspire ukulele players to bring their music places no nice wood instrument should ever go—like the beach.
Hello,
I know I've said this many times before, but carbon fiber guitars and slide playing are a match made in heaven. I'm a novice slide player and am able to get some pretty good licks. Here's some slide playing on a Super OM.
Here's a short clip of a Rider with D'Addario EXP19 - bluegrass gauge - strings and with three different mic positions. The action at the first fret, treble e, is at .005", but doesn't buzz and still has great tone. Comments welcome. Thank you.
Thanks to DP for posting this... I'm creating a separate thread for all the rider fans...
and another from the same guy, on the steel rider

Just something to tide us over until Ryan gets around to shooting a video if his new Super OM.
The Blackbird Super Orchestra Model has a cannon voice with
dreadnought volume and fullness but is compact and 3D sculpted with
body cuts for enhanced comfort and playability. The tone goes above and
beyond convention with uncommon sustain, perfect clarity and string
balance the length of the fretboard. The OM’s power and clarity is born
from Blackbird’s holistic approach to maximizing resonance: a
proprietary hollow neck and head carbon-fiber uni-body construction,
asymmetric design with off-set sound hole, as well as a head and body

Jeremy, Blackbird guitar's jolly guitar assembler/luthier/web-lackey, inches his way through a well known Bluegrass tune on the Blackbird Rider. It's lightweight, has a one piece Carbon Fiber body, and can even fit in an overhead compartment on an airplane, yet can hold its own next to the most powerful of dreadnought guitars.
Mark Hamre, a wonderful guitar player, inventor of the Neck up guitar support, and now good friend, stopped in for a visit on the way down to Santa Barbara. His hard-driving blues really brings out the low-end and volume of the Blackbird Rider. Check out more of his music at Neckup.com. More on Blackbird at www.blackbirdguitar.com
