Breedlove Guitars Pro C25/CR, Herrinbone, Blemished Guitar

May 28th, 2008 . by MacNichol

Update: This guitar has sold, but if you are interested in a Breedlove Pro C25, please call MacNichol at 1-800-849-3305. Thank You.

———————————

MacNichol Guitars and Mandolins has a blemished Breedlove Pro C25/CR, Herringbone available. This particular model has a small smudge on the top finish that, unless you look closely, blends in with the wood grain. Other than that, this guitar is in just fine condition. It has a deep, resonant bass along with a well-balanced tone.

Because of this small cosmetic blemish, the guitar is being offered at a discounted price of $1,099, which includes hardshell case and free shipping within the continental U.S. There is nothing functionally wrong with this instrument and the sound is unaffected by the cosmetic blemish. The bracing, JLD bridge truss, bridge, woods, neck, neck truss, fingerboard, nut, and tuning machines are all fine.

If you use a removable pickguard, which comes free with the guitar, then the blemish is no longer visible.

If there is something functionally wrong with a guitar, Breedlove lists it as a “third”, and then saws out a part of the body and then sends the guitar to a dealer to show customers the Breedlove bracing and JLD bridge truss system. MacNichol’s Breedlove guitars third is a twelve-string and looks as though a shark took a big bite out of it.

Breedlove cosmetic blemishes still have the manufacturer’s warranty, however, the blemish is not covered in the warranty. Please call 1-800-849-3305 for more information. Thank You.

CA GUITARS ANNOUNCES NEW INTEGRATED TOP BRACING TECHNOLOGY™

CA GUITARS ANNOUNCES NEW INTEGRATED TOP BRACING TECHNOLOGY™

The New 5i and 7i Series Guitars

CA Guitars, Lafayette, Louisiana, a premier builder of carbon fiber acoustic guitars, is excited to announce the newest addition to its line of great sounding, ultra durable, high-end carbon fiber acoustic guitars featuring Integrated Top Bracing Technology ™ (ITB™).

Drawing on his years of experience working with composite materials at Lockheed Aerospace, as well as 10 years of guitar building under the CA banner, Ellis Seal, founder and head of product development at CA, developed an innovative approach for guitar top bracing. While all CA Guitars are braced to provide maximum tone, volume and sustain, the new “i Series” guitars feature an offset sound hole with bracing built into the carbon fiber top rather than made separately and adhesively bonded.  ITB represents an exciting step forward in acoustic guitar design. The new “i Series” guitars have a deeper low end response than most acoustic guitars with clear mids and sparkling highs.

The 5iM-CE is a medium sized grand auditorium with sharp cutaway featuring CA’s proprietary road tough (RT) scratch resistant finish, and a Fishman Matrix under saddle piezo pickup with volume and tone inside the sound hole. It is available in Red, Wine, and Charcoal ($1732 Retail). The model 7iM-CE is a medium sized grand auditorium with sharp cutaway featuring a high gloss finish and the all new Fishman Matrix Infinity under saddle piezo pickup with volume and tone inside the sound hole. It is available in Metallic Red, and Blue ($2266 Retail).

Check out the entire line of great sounding, road worthy acoustic guitars made right here in the USA. From indoors to outdoors, car trunks to airplane overhead compartments, basements to attics, wall hooks to guitar stands, super humid to bone dry, CA Guitars are ready when you are, wherever you are.

Composite Acoustics Cargo Travel Guitar Review

May 15th, 2008 . by MacNichol

CA Guitars (Composite Acoustics) has produced the world’s best travel guitar - lightweight, durable, small, great sound. The Cargo seems to weigh nothing; indeed, when I first received it in its packaged box, I wondered whether CA Guitars had forgotten to include the guitar — the box felt empty it was so light. Also, the durability of carbon fiber guitars is just the thing needed for a travel instrument, and, the Cargo is small enough to fit into an overhead compartment on a plane.

OK, so you could take this with you on a backpacking trip and barely notice the extra baggage, but what about the sound? That’s the best part — the Cargo sounds great. The first thing that I noticed was the amazing bass response. It’s hard to believe that a guitar that’s so small that I hold it the same way I hold a mandolin would produce such a deep, mellow and loud bass. The mid-tones come through just fine, and the high E string has a crystalline, bell-like quality to it.

Features include an offset soundhole, ergonomic design, Gotoh 381 tuners, and a gig bag.

A couple of pointers — either cross your left leg over your right and cradle the guitar as you would a mandolin, or use a strap because the Cargo’s body is simply too small to hold it the way you would a regular acoustic guitar. Also, the narrow fret spacing takes a little time to get used to, and you’ll like find yourself overshooting at first, but you’ll get used to it fairly quickly.

Breedlove Pro Series D25/SR, Herringbone Review

May 4th, 2008 . by MacNichol

Breedlove’s Pro Series provide a custom shop feel at a great value. The dreadnought model of the Pro Series, model D25/SR, Herringbone, boasts a AAA-grade solid sitka spruce top along with AAA-grade solid rosewood back and sides, and shares many features with Breedlove’s higher end guitars, such as Gotoh 381 tuners (custom upgrade to Gotoh 510 tuners available), L.R. Baggs Element Active electronics (customizable to L.R. Baggs Dual Element, I-Mix, Breedlove Synergy System, or custom), bolt-on neck, and a Lifetime Warranty.

So why the lower price? Two primary reasons. First, the Pro Series does not offer much customization. Customers can select electronics, tuners, and nut/saddle, but can not customize other aspects, such as tonewoods. Second, much of the initial work is done in South Korea. One Pro Series owner recently posted the following to the Breedlove Forum:

“The neck and body are indeed made in Korea. The tech that I talked to said that all the finish work, such as setting the neck, installing the frets, sanding, setting up the guitar is done at the factory. He also went on to say that they had quite a bit of discussion about marketing it as Made in the USA. They felt that because of all the work that was done in the factory by their techs who are working alongside the custom line, it should be billed as Made in the USA. They wanted their people to be recognized as the people who brought the guitar to life. I for one, and very satisfied with his answer. For all they do to put the guitar together and set it up, I feel that it is Made in the USA. Just for the record, I never had any issues with the sound, feel or quality of the guitar.”

See: Breedlove Forum

The most important question, though, is how does the Breedlove Pro D25 sound? Simply put, great. The Pro D25 compares favorably to much more expensive models. The combination of sitka spruce and rosewood provides for a bright, crisp sound along with a punchy, piano-like bass. Features include deluxe hardshell case, herringbone purfling, dot position markers, asymetrical winged ebony bridge, ebony fingerboard, one-piece Indonesian mahogany neck with dual action truss rod, 1 3/4 inch nut, abalone ring rosette, strap button at the neck heel, and, of course, JLD bridge truss system.
