Review of Breedlove Twelve String Guitar, Model AJ250/SM-12
June 30th, 2008 . by MacNicholCombine Breedlove technology, jumbo body, JLD bridge truss, and twelve string, along with sitka spruce top and mahogany back and sides, and you’ve got a smooth, mellow 12-string guitar that will work for many different playing styles. The bass is the deep, warm bass you would typically expect from a mahogany guitar, the mids come through very well, and the highs are crisp.
Fingerstylists will love this: The Breedlove AJ250/SM-12 does not come with a pickguard, which, personally I prefer because it allows the owner the option of including one later, or not including one at all and thus increasing the top’s resonance. It also comes with a soft cutaway, which allows for easy access all the way up to the 18th fret. You may need to reach a little to get to the 19th and 20th frets.
This model is simply adorned with a satin finish, pearl dot position markers, and black binding, but little else. This gives the AJ250/SM-12 a simple, clean look, and also helps keep the price low.
Features include Fishman Classic IV electronics, chrome Grover tuners, pinless bridge, rosewood fingerboard and bridge, Tusq nut and saddle, rosewood headstock overlay, abalone rosette, black binding, satin finish, ebony end pin, button strap at the base of the guitar’s neck, hardshell case, and a limited five year warranty.
