Once You Receive Your Breedlove Guitar

November 15th, 2008 . by MacNichol

When you receive a Breedlove guitar that was shipped from MacNichol or any other dealer , please do the following:

1- Although you’re probably anxious to open up your guitar immediately, it’s a good idea to give your guitar time to acclimate to its new home by leaving it in its case for at least six hours before opening, preferably wait twenty four hours before opening the case. You’ll notice that over the first few days, your guitar will sound better each day as it acclimates. Please be sure to keep your guitar in an environment of 70 degrees and 45% relative humidity, or, use an in-case humidifier.

2- Your guitar comes with strings on it, but it’s a good idea to place new strings on it once it arrives so that you’ll get that fresh “new string” sound. Strings don’t travel very well.

3- Please wipe down your guitar with a soft cloth after each playing session. The “moist breath” and then wipe down method works very well to keep your guitar in great shape. MacNichol advises using a microfiber cloth.

4- After one week, check the neck relief by placing a capo on the first fret, and then push down on the low ā€œEā€ string at 14th fret with your
right hand. There should be about 0.010ā€ of space between the bottom of the string and the top of the 6th fret. Take a business card of average thickness, and slide it under the low “E” string with your left hand, while pressing down on the low “E” string at the 14th fret with your right hand. The card should slide between the fret and string snugly, but not too tightly.
