Description

Are you searching for a Martin bone guitar saddle for a model made after 1996? Our 11 mm height compensated unbleached bone saddle will fit many Martin body shapes, including dreadnought, OM, OOO, as well as many Martin Guitar series, including the Standard, X, Road, Modern Deluxe, and Junior.

Note: This saddle will not fit guitars with saddles that go entirely through the bridge lengthwise. Please contact us for more information on which saddle will fit your guitar. Please see our guide on How to Find the Right Saddle for Your Martin Guitar for more information.

Additionally, our saddle has a 2.5 mm thickness to allow you to adjust to a snug fit in your guitar bridge. Some of our competitors make saddles to a 3/32 inch specification, which translates to a 2.4 mm thickness, which can result in a loose fit in the bridge slot.

If you need a 10 mm height saddle instead, please see the following link.

Bone Saddle – Fits Many Martin Guitars – 10 mm

Please note that each guitar is slightly different and your new unbleached bone saddle may need adjustments to the height, length, or thickness to match your factory Martin bone guitar saddle. We include a piece of sandpaper for you to make adjustments.

Please let us know of any questions regarding fitting your saddle’s action height, intonation, or any other factor. If you are not fully satisfied, please let us know and we’ll either provide a replacement saddle or a refund.

MacNichol Guitars

MacNichol Guitars provides high quality bone saddles that last a long time and produce excellent tone. Inexpensive, low quality bone saddles are often overly porous and whitened with harsh chemicals, resulting in weak bone that does not last and produces poor tone. We help you find the right saddle – length, height, thickness, radius, and compensation – for your specific guitar. Once you receive the saddle, contact our free expert support with any questions on installation. Not entirely satisfied? We will send a free replacement or full refund.

  1. Chops Dubai

I got a Martin DRS1 a year ago. But the high action and muffled tone really put me off. Took it to techs who said that the truss rod can’t be adjusted to lower action further so saddle sanding is then only option.

I have a cheapo Ibanez PC12MH practice guitar that sounded way better that the Martin, and has super low action without buzzing (I’ve modded it a lot, put brass pins etc.)

I was hoping that adding a bone saddle would add the brightness and full tone, and sanding would give me the buttery action that a Ibanez 1/10th the price gives me. Needless to say, this has delivered in spades. I’m in love with my Martin again!

Macnichol’s instructions were super helpful, especially yesterday’s detailed ones. I ordered this from all the way in Dubai, but the shipping was quick and service and support were amazing.

This is someone who really knows his craft and cares about customer satisfaction. Highly recommended!

  2. John Offutt

I have a new Martin D28. I changed the tusq saddle to the unbleached saddle I bought from Nichols guitar. I also changed the Corian nut to an unbleached nut I got at Stew Mac all ready pre slotted and bone bridge pins size is 1.3 from Maury’s music. This unbleached saddle along with everything else I have done has brought out the colors and flavors on my Martin D28. Even the harmonics, clarity, bass, midrange and treble of each note is far superior than before. The strumming and finger style notes are far superior. Yes do the changes on your guitar and you will be very happy!

  3. John Offutt

I bought a new Martin D28 $2,999.00 standard guitar. It came with a Corian nut, Tusq saddle and plastic white bridge pins. I bought an unbleached compensated bone saddle from MacNichol guitars that fit my guitar. And I bought unbleached bone nut from StewMac already slotted and bought bone bridge 1.3 pins and Bone strap button from Maury’s Music. Everything I bought from these guitar part companies all are per the manufacture specifications for your guitar company I also use .013 -.056 strings. And I have to say it is well worth it my Martin D28 colors and flavor’s from each note either strumming or fingerstyle is a big improvement. D28 has a bigger increase in volume, sustain and clarity, increase in fatter harmonics & better overtones and transparent richness of the guitar and the more it is played the sound will just keep getting better. I wish I could have bought it all from just one company. Buy all unbleached bone if possible and thank you MacNichol guitars. The only other improvement for Martin is if the guitar had a Spanish Heel Construction far superior than the Dovetail Construction. The top end luthiers do use the Spanish Heel Construction on both nylon string & steel string guitars made in the USA and Spain. Keep playing music everyone!

  4. David Burch

Just fitted this to a newer Martin, and the improvement is clear even to my aging ears. Overtones with phosphor-bronze strings are under better control. The guitar sounds more focused. It will only get better as it is played over the years, but the MacNichol unbleached bone saddle is a good first step in this new guitar.
